Colleen Hunter

Colleen has a long association with The University of Montana, receiving her Bachelor of Music in 1980 and Master of Music in 1986. She also studied string pedagogy at Denver University, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and the Talent Education Institute in Matsumoto, Japan. Colleen founded The University of Montana Suzuki String Program in 1982, and directed that program until 1994. She has taught private lessons for thirty-five years, and has also worked for the Montana Arts Council, H&R Block, Missoula County Public Schools, and the Women's Studies Program and The Center for Ethics at The University of Montana. She currently works as a grant accountant at the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at The University of Montana. Colleen is a founding member of the String Orchestra of the Rockies, principal violist with the Missoula Symphony, and import musician with the Bozeman Symphony and Intermountain Opera as well as with the Helena Symphony and the Glacier Symphony. When not working or performing, she enjoys hiking, skiing, canoeing, and self-contained bicycle touring. She has bicycled from Virginia to Oregon (1993), from Missoula to Anchorage (1995), and from Washington to Maine (1999).
